I have a particular interest in the assessment and treatment of the following issues:

Anxiety issues including:

  • social anxiety
  • generalised anxiety (excessive worrying about a range of things)
  • panic/phobias/obsessive compulsive disorder.
  • Anxiety is a state that we all experience however it can be very intense, frequent and debilitating – it gets in the way of an good quality of life.

Mood issues – depressed mood. There can be periods in life when one’s mood flattens somewhat and one feels low or down for a day or so and then it returns to a more positive range. What to expect from therapy

 What to expect from therapy
You can expect to have the therapy process explained at the beginning of your first appointment. Any questions you may have about therapy will be answered before a detailed discussion of your concerns/difficulties takes place.

The type of therapy used is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) which is a widely used and validated treatment which has been shown to work well in the treatment of a range of psychological problems. CBT involves identifying and then working together to alter patterns of thinking and behaviour which may be creating negative outcomes and/or detracting from your quality of life.

The first two sessions are spent exploring the nature of your difficulties/concerns – how long they have occurred, discussion concerning any triggers, what makes it easier to manage, what makes it more difficult etc. Following this assessment we work together to develop an intervention approach designed to meet the goals you have set for yourself. Progress is monitored and discussed.
